Golden smoothie {vegan}

I like the cold, and I like winter. I’m one of those individuals who truly enjoy massive amounts of clothing in onion-like layers and sleep like an eskimo. Nevertheless, no matter how many pieces of clothing I wear, my nose, feet and hands are most likely ice cold. I’ve always been like this. I love walking my dog on sunny and very cold days, with no bare skin on sight other than my cold pink cheeks and the point of my nose.

Despite that, my immune system was never very cooperative with my winter loving self and, every year, I would have some kind of health situation, wether it was a flu, a cold or any kind of uncomfortable tonsilitis. And so, I’m proud to say that, so far, this is the first winter that I haven’t been sick apart from a 3-day runny nose sinus infection. This is truly a novelty to me and I home I’m not jinxing it somehow…

I truly believe that diet has a lot to do with it. I’ve been extra careful these past few months with my immune boosting food intake, which is why I’m sharing this simple recipe today. I’ve been drinking this quite regularly, because one cannot have too much turmeric or ginger!

I love golden milk variations, and here is mine, easy to make and adapt to your own sweet-tooth! You can either drink it warm or cold.

Ingredients
  • 1 banana
  • 2 cm ginger root
  • 3 cm turmeric root
  • 3 - 4 dates, pitted
  • 1 tsp cinnamon powder
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup oat milk, unsweetened [for other plant-milks, see notes]

  • 1 banana
  • 2 cm ginger root
  • 3 cm turmeric root
  • 3 - 4 dates, pitted
  • 1 tsp cinnamon powder
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup oat milk, unsweetened [for other plant-milks, see notes]

Instructions
  1. Blend all ingredients together until smooth.
  2. Sprinkle a bit of cinnamon on top
  3. Drink or serve
Recipe Notes
  • You can make this with any kind of plant milk, although I've only tried with soy and oat homemade milks and, therefore, can't assure the result with other plant-based options. If you do try, please let me know in the comments below
  • I've used organic ingredients, with skins on
  • I've used homemade unsweetened plain plant-milk, if you use store-bought, adjust the dates to your preferences
